Adding Your First Tablet
What You'll Need
- An active account and access to Settings
- The tablet device you want to register
- About 5-10 minutes to complete setup
Step 1: Generate a PIN Code
- Log into your account and navigate to Settings
- Find "Registered Tablets and Mobile Apps" section (dark blue card)
- Click "Generate PIN for New Tablet" button
- Note the 6-digit PIN (example: 123456) - valid for 6 hours only
Step 2: Register Your Tablet
- On your tablet device, open a web browser
- Go to:
[your-website]/tablets/register
- Enter the PIN and a friendly name (e.g., "Grandma's Living Room")
- Click "Register Tablet"
- Bookmark the success page - this is your tablet's unique URL
Step 3: Assign to a Display
- Return to Settings - your tablet now appears in the list
- Click on the tablet card to open parent assignment
- Select a Display from the dropdown
- Click "Update" to save the assignment
Success!
Your tablet will now show content from the assigned display with navigation controls.
Creating and Managing Displays
Creating Your First Display
- Navigate to /displays page from your account
- Click "New Display" button
- Enter a title (e.g., "Family Photos", "Living Room Display")
- Save the display
Adding Content to Displays
- Click "Posts [0]" next to your display
- Click "New Post" to add content:
- 📸 Images: Family photos, memories
- 📝 Text: Messages, reminders, information
- 📅 Date/Time: Current date and time display
- 🎥 Videos: Family videos and memories
- Organize posts by dragging the icon
Pro Tips
- Use descriptive titles for easy organization
- Add captions to photos to help with memory recall
- Mix content types (photos, text, dates) for variety
Sharing Access with Family
Magic Links
Share secure access with family members without giving them your password.
Creating a Magic Link
- Go to Settings page
- Find "Share Access to Your Picture Frame" (blue card at top)
- Click "Copy Magic Link for Sharing"
- Share the link with trusted family members via text or email
What Family Members Can Do
- Add new photos and memories
- Create new posts with captions
- View existing content
- Help organize family memories
Secure & Temporary
Magic links provide temporary access and don't expose your login credentials.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
PIN Problems
- Check all 6 digits are correct
- Generate a new PIN if expired (6-hour limit)
- Ensure you're on /tablets/register page
- PINs automatically expire after 6 hours
- Generate a fresh PIN in Settings
Display Issues
- Check internet connection
- Verify tablet URL is correct
- Try refreshing the browser
- Ensure parent display has posts
- Check tablet is assigned to a display
- Use reload button (🔄) on tablet
